About Christen Forster

In 2011, Christen left employment as the Senior Leader of River (riverchurch.org.uk), a multi-congregation church in the Thames Valley, UK, to pursue this wider ministry full time. Growing up in the Ichthus Christian Fellowship as the son of Roger and Faith Forster, he is a second-generation leader, pastor and teacher. Christen has planted churches, mobilised youth teams, led congregations and served in mission contexts in the UK and overseas. He also has seven years valuable experience as an I.T. Consultant.

After graduating from Royal Holloway College, University of London in 1987 with a BSc in Computer Science, Christen spent time in Pasadena, California taking classes at the Fuller Seminary. While in the U.S, Christen lived with Che Ahn, founder of Harvest International Ministries.
In the 1990s he led Challenge 2000, a DAWN (Discipling A Whole Nation) initiative that was the catalyst for every major UK denomination to agree to place church-planting on their agenda. The keynote speaker of the 1995 Challenge 2000 Congress was Rev Dr David Yonggi Cho, then leader of the world’s largest church in Seoul, South Korea.

Christen is married to Judith and has three teenage children. In his spare time he reads, plays bridge, cycles, enjoys theatre and film and spending time with his family.

UK Black Church leaders and Ofcom discuss broadcasting standards in relation to miraculous signs and wonders ministries

Press Statement by the Minority Ethnic Christian Affairs on 24 April 2013

Leaders of Britain’s Black churches met recently with standards executives from Ofcom, the broadcasting standards watchdog, in a landmark meeting. The meeting was called by Minority Ethnic Christian Affairs (MECA) of Churches Together in England (CTE) in light of recent concerns that Pentecostal ministries in miraculous signs and wonders could be endangering lives.

In a wide ranging discussion Ofcom explained its legal remit to regulate UK-based TV and radio broadcasters in a manner that protects the public from harm, or offence, while not interfering with legitimate rights to freedom of religious expression. The Ofcom executives heard from black church leaders who support their work, and others who questioned the need for such a body. Some wanted to know if Ofcom is trying to suppress religious expression particularly among BME faith communities.

‘The presentation from Ofcom was informative and indeed an eye opener. It is in the interest of our churches, as we grow exponentially, to ensure that we operate within the law of the land with sensitivity whilst not compromising our (biblical) belief in divine healing’, said Rev Nezlin Sterling, Director of Studies at the New Testament Assembly.

Church leaders sought assurance that Ofcom does not have an agenda to undermine the Christian faith, particularly black Christian faith, through its codes of practice. Ofcom’s executives made clear their largely complaints-led role is to ensure broadcasters stay within the guidelines set out in their charter to protect the public from harm and exploitation.

Commenting on the meeting, Dr Michel Sacramento, President of Pastorale Francophone UK said, ‘Far from hindering our mission for broadcasting the message of the Gospel, the Ofcom regulations may help spur evangelical broadcasters into developing more imaginative ways of communicating the Gospel to a cosmopolitan audience, taking into consideration the peculiarities of the environment in which it is articulated. The challenges we now face may turn into blessings as we grow stronger in effectiveness and scope’.

Church leaders in their concluding discussions agreed that whilst freedom of religious expression is a right, claims about miraculous healings must not be made lightly or without corroboration. Listeners to this type of broadcast should be encouraged to seek medical advice before making any change to their treatment regimes. Ofcom and Black Church Leaders agreed to continue to dialogue.

End…

Notes:

Minority Ethnic Christian Affairs (MECA) is an arm of Churches Together in England (CTE) that works closely with members and non-members of the national ecumenical instrument towards a Church in which Black and other Minority Ethnic (BME) Christian communities play their full part in the proclamation of the Christian Gospel.

This Year’s National Day Of Prayer and Worship to take place in St Helen’s

Issued Wednesday 17th April 2013

We are delighted to announce that this evening in St Helen’s, there will be a special gathering for over 150 key church leaders from across the North of England to celebrate that this year’s National Day of Prayer and Worship will be held in partnership with Saints in the Stadium, in St. Helens on Saturday 12th October 2013 between 10.00am and 4.00pm.

The announcement comes on the same day that Dr Jonathan Oloyede, Founder of the National Day and Worship is calling on Christians across the country to be ‘prayerfully alert’ and praying for the peace of God as the funeral of Baroness Thatcher takes place in London yesterday.

The London Marathon is also due to take place on Sunday morning following security reviews over the next couple of days.

In a Tweet from his personal Twitter account posted yesterday morning (16th April), Dr Jonathan Oloyede (@jonathanoloyede) said “Calling all Christians to be prayerfully alert across the Isles tmw. We pray for God’s Will and Shalom. #thywillbedone”

Dr Jonathan Oloyede is encouraging people to use the hashtag #thywillbedone today with their prayers for the Nation.

Several months have now passed since the National Day of Prayer and Worship in Wembley Stadium where over 32,000 people gathered to pray for our Family of Nations. It was an historic event in one of the most iconic football stadiums in the world with the effect still being felt across the UK.

Since Wembley, the National Day of Prayer and Worship team have been looking to the future and felt the need to ‘join the dots’ of prayer across the country, which in turn would lead to natural partnering to host the 2013 National Day of Prayer and Worship. Prayerfully decisions have now taken place and we believe that this years gathering should take place in St Helen’s.

It is expected that the event in the Autumn will see between 10,000 – 18,000 Christians from across the North and Nation attending from various Christian strands and networks.

Ministries and Churches from across the North of England who were inspired by what happened in Wembley, have been led by God to come together for a day of Repenting, Rejoicing and Seeking God.

Details of the vision for the St Helen’s event, Saints in the Stadium will be shared tonight in the context of prayer and worship led by local leader, Ian Yates at the Stadium. There was also input from Philip Fell (Co-Chair) and Steve Pilkington (Visionary) who both sit on the monthly planning group.

At the end of the event, church leaders will be encouraged to carry this vision

A word of encouragement for the event has also been received by The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu who is responsible for Anglican churches in the Northern Province.

There will also be monthly prayer meetings at the Stadium in the run down to the event in October, which is open to anyone from across the churches in the North.

The North is serving the Nation this year by facilitating the National Day of Prayer and Worship 2013.

Speaking ahead of this evening’s event, Dr Jonathan Oloyede, Founder of the National Day of Prayer and Worship said:

“Wembley was amazing last September, and we thank God for all that was done that day! Now, we look to standing with the leaders in the North for Saints in the Stadium later this year. God is speaking in our nation and I believe we need to be one Body in united lifting our prayers to Him.

I am delighted that NDOPW is partnering with and standing alongside leaders in St Helen’s to pull this event together. I am confident that God is going to move in St Helen’s in October as well as the rest of the nation. I encourage you to be part of this!”

Also, speaking of his delight that St Helen’s is able to host this years event, Philip Fell, one of the Co-Chairs of the planning group said:

“Christians are called to unity as the body of Christ. Prayer draws us to that place. As we stand together on 12th October this year, united in prayer for the Region, for the North and for the Nation I believe we will not simply be holding an event but be part of developing a legacy of Unity, Prayer and Mission which will lead to the revival and transformation of our nation.”

Ticket sales for Saints in the Stadium will go on sale in early May, with further details being released soon.

The website – www.saintsinthestadium.co.uk was also launched.

Together in Ministry Network welcomes Jason Gregory & Petro Pereira of Team Visionarys to share with us the work they are doing to transform their communities and the business world.

We explored biblical principles that can be applied in the business world, looked at the Reliv Products, business coaching, & business choices in austere times.

It was a great conversation, with inspiring stories and some motivational quotes. To find out more about Jason and Petro, and about the Reliv Products, please check out their website, www.visionarys.ws.

We interviewed Jay Seegert, author of “Let There Be Light” on TiM Blog Talk Radio for two episodes, where he shed a lot of light on the Evolution vs Creation debate raging in the world today. You must listen to these amazing facts shared, it will build your confident in sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with the skeptics.

About the Book

The claim is often made that living in an age of modern science makes it intellectually impossible to accept the straight-forward Genesis account of creation. Let There Be Light reveals that biblical Christianity presents the only worldview that consistently and accurately explains observations made of the world in which we live. Believers will have their faith greatly strengthened, while skeptics will be graciously and seriously challenged.

Guest’s Bio: JAY SEEGERT

Upbringing

Raised in a strong Christian home and accepted Christ as my saviour while in grade school. My entire family attended a very biblically-sound non-denominational Bible church, where we were all involved in various ministries. My father was Chairman of the Board for a number of years.

Education

After graduating from high school, I initially attended John Brown University, a Christian college in Arkansas to study Mechanical Engineering. Just after my junior year, I changed my major to Physics and transferred to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (John Brown did not offer Physics as a major). While attending UW-Whitewater, I was a member of Sigma-Pi-Sigma (National Physics Honour Society). I graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics (UW-Whitewater) and an Associates of Science degree in Engineering Technology (John Brown University).

Personal Ministry Background

My initial interest in apologetics, especially creation science, began while attending UW-Whitewater in 1985, largely due to the fact that all of my professors were evolutionists and some were atheists. It was there that I wrote my first paper on creation science and gave my first lecture (to the university’s Physics Club).

Over the past 26 years, I have spoken in numerous churches, conferences (some where over 5,000 attended), secular schools, Christian schools, universities and various other venues. In addition to creation related topics, I have also spoken on: “The Existence of God”, “The Origin of the Bible”, “The Inspiration & Authority of the Bible”, “Alleged Errors/Contradictions of the Bible”, “Science & the Bible”, “Prophecy & the Bible”, “Jehovah’s Witnesses”, “Mormonism”, “The Deity of Christ”, “Old Testament History”, and “Witnessing & Evangelism Training”.

Ministry Highlights

2004-2006 – Served as the President of the Creation Science Society of Milwaukee.

2005 – Offered a fulltime position as a national speaker with Answers In Genesis (directed by Ken Ham), but after much prayer felt led to decline.

2007 – Co-founded the Creation Education Center and moved into fulltime ministry, giving up my own successful computer programming business.

2007 – Awarded the prestigious “Faithful Servant Award” by the Christian Stewardship Foundation which included a grant to the Creation Education Center.

2008-2010 - Adjunct national speaker for Creation Ministries International (in addition to my own full-time ministry).

2010 – Published my first book entitled “Let There Be Light” (sub-title: “Making Sense of the Creation/Evolution Controversy”)

2011 – Became an Ambassador for Logos Research Associates

Currently serving as the Co-Founder and Principal Lecturer for the Creation Education Center (2007-present)
